When Thai people build their houses or inhabit a new place of residence, they always provide a spirit house for the guardian spirits to live. A sacred ceremony is performed to respectfully invite the guardian spirits to come inhabit the spirit house. The guardian spirits bring luck, happiness, accomplishment, and security for all members of the household. Placed either inside their house, or outside near the front door, Thai people believe the guardian spirits will protect against evil spirits or enemies who might threaten the family or their home. A daily offering of food or drink is made to the guardian spirits and placed in the spirit house. This is usually done before the first meal of the day. The offering consists of whatever food the family is eating that day. This spirit house is expertly handcrafted of teak wood with painstaking accuracy by Worldstock artisans in the village of Ban Twai in northern Thailand. The handcrafted nature of this product will produce slight variations from piece to piece in color, form, and sizing, adding to its unique qualities.
