Rungthip Jailoung and her family in Northern Thailand handcraft each vase. The finished product comes from an intricate process beginning with the selection of the right piece of wood, removing the bark and then lathing it into the desired shape. After sitting in a kiln for three days and being sanded multiple times inside and out, it is ready for carving. After two coats of paint and a soft stain finish, the seven-day process is nearly complete. Lastly, an etching tool is used to make the beautiful designs on each vase. Available in dark cherry or black, these eye-catching vases are not watertight. Clean the vase with a damp cloth and make sure the piece is thoroughly dried afterwards.
